Future of Journalism
Supporting emerging journalists and local media
Atlanta Way 2.0’s Future of Journalism initiative is rooted in the belief that a healthy democracy depends on informed, connected communities. We work to strengthen local journalism by supporting emerging journalists, amplifying community-centered storytelling, and reinforcing the local media ecosystem that keeps our region informed and engaged.
Through partnerships with local newsrooms such as SaportaReport, journalists, educators, and civic organizations, we help future journalists develop the skills, relationships, and ethical grounding needed to report with accuracy, empathy, and accountability. We prioritize stories that reflect the lived experiences of Atlanta’s diverse communities—particularly voices that have been historically underrepresented or overlooked.
At the same time, we support local media outlets by fostering collaboration, sharing data and resources, and creating spaces for dialogue between journalists, community members, and civic leaders.
Our work helps rebuild trust in local media, strengthen public understanding of complex issues, and ensure journalism serves as a bridge—connecting people to information, opportunity, and one another.
By investing in journalists, local media, and community-driven storytelling, the Future of Journalism initiative advances a more informed, equitable, and connected Atlanta—where truth, transparency, and shared purpose move our region forward together.

How we support journalism in Atlanta
Paid Summer Internships
(PIN)
Through our paid summer internships in partnership with SaportaReport, Atlanta Way 2.0 supports emerging journalists and storytellers as they gain hands-on experience in community-centered reporting. Interns work alongside veteran journalists and civic leaders to develop practical skills, expand professional networks, and contribute meaningful journalism that reflects Atlanta’s diverse communities.

Journalism Fellowship:
(9 months)
Our nine-month Journalism Fellowship invests in early-career journalists committed to local, ethical, and solutions-oriented reporting.
Fellows receive mentorship, professional development, and access to regional media partners while producing in-depth, community-informed stories that strengthen public trust and elevate underrepresented voices across metro Atlanta. Articles appear on SaportaReport.
Professional Development Workshops
Atlanta Way 2.0 convenes professional development workshops with regional media partners and leads creative, multi-media reporting during pivotal moments in the life of the city—such as global events like FIFA. By centering community perspectives and innovative storytelling, we help local media inform the public, capture Atlanta’s evolving narrative, and connect residents to the issues shaping their city in real time.
